This is Dr. Smith's Math Blog about learning mathematics in a secondary classroom. Every day for 180 teaching days during 2017-2018 I will summarize what students are learning in an alternative high school and how they are learning. I will display student work as examples to share with the school community what students are learning in the classroom. I will try to also post connections to schedules and other information as well. This is a monitored blog and all comments must be approved by Dr. Smith before posting. Also from time to time I will post questions or small engagement activities for parent and student engagement.
In this math course we will be looking at patterns and connection to real life to make mathematics visible. So each day we need to make connections to the real world so the investigations below are a warm-up to this type of instruction. So Let's Get Started! Record your time on this one. Questions: 1. How long to find the circles? 2. How many circles in the picture? 3. Close your eyes and then look again. How long the next time to see the circles? 4. Can you not see the circles after viewing it the third time? Place your answers in the comment section and in your math journal.
